Shifting Gears is in need of bicycles (especially adult men’s bikes) to fulfill more the requests we’ve receive totaling more than 200 bicycles.
Shifting Gears is a cooperative program between Bicycle Garage Indy, the Indiana Department of Correction, and the Volunteers of America of Indiana. The program collects, refurbishes, then donates bicycles to those in need. This program is win-win-win proposition: A) INDOC’s offenders learn critical jobs skills, B) Refurbished bikes go to persons in need, & C) You receive a tax deduction. Just in the past year, nearly 366 bikes have been donated through organizations to people who need bikes. We still have requests for more than 200 bikes; we are waiting on donated bikes to be able to fulfill these requests.

There are two ways to give: #1) Donate old bikes at Bicycle Garage Indy retail locations. #2) Donate money to Shifting Gears through our local VoA Chapter. Cash donations insure that the Shifting Gears program can purchase critical supplies that can’t be harvested from donated bikes, such as: new cables, chains, lubes, & solvents.
