For the chief executive officer of Cummins, time is valuable and spare time is a rare luxury. Yet, nearly every morning, Tom Linebarger wakes up early and gets in 75 minutes of exercise.
He makes it a priority, building his routine around cross training: some cardio and some weight lifting. And he's among executives who find the benefit of exercise beyond the physical.
Chris Tuten exercises when he can sneak in an hour break from his job as vice president of corporate information security at Navient, a Sally Mae spinoff in Fishers. At home on the weekends, he does a routine designed for him by the personal trainers his company employs in its on-site fitness center.
Fitting exercise into a busy week of work, travel and family commitments can be a challenge for people in high-pressure jobs. But scientists say it's worth it to prioritize physical fitness.
The payoff? Increased productivity, better problem-solving and less stress.
"You have to recognize this idea that if part of your work involves interacting with others and motivating others, being in a good frame of mind matters," Linebarger said. (Full article.)
