Shifting Gears turns donated bikes into viable transportation for people who need bikes. Give your unused bikes a new lease on life for someone else through Shifting Gears.  In 2013, more than 552 bikes were distributed to organizations for people who need bikes. Currently we are in need of donated bikes – we have requests for nearly 300 bikes, but don’t have the bikes to fulfill the requests. For more information and how you can help, please visit this page about Shifting Gears on BGI’s website.

Bicycle Garage Indy and BGI Fitness are pleased to announce our sponsorship of Nine13sports. Nine13sports is a bicycle-focused nonprofit dedicated to getting kids on bikes. Nine13sports will be at our stores on August 30th & 31st – stop by to learn more about their programs. More info: Press Release

From our friends at IndyCog: Indy Ride Guide 2.0 goes digital! The bicycle map for indianapolis is now digital on the Maprika app. Now if you need to find out the best route to take by bike and don’t have a map handy, you can also access the Indy Ride Guide on your phone.

Monon Bridge over 38th Street: Indianapolis will devote $1.6 million in grant money to build a bridge over 38th St on the Monon in 2017. The historical marker for World Champion cyclist and Indianapolis native Major Taylor is near the proposed bridge site. It has been suggested (by BGI Marketing Manager Jay Hardcastle) to name the bridge for Major Taylor. Seems fitting that the bridge would bear his name.
