On the local level:
Note: Indy’s zoning code hasn't been updated in more than 40 years – this effort to focus on sustainability and livability through unifying and revising code in a comprehensive way will truly be transformative for our city! Here's a video link for more info
On the national level:
League of American Bicyclist’s Every Bicyclist Counts report is out. It has generated many comments. League President Andy Clarke answers some of the important questions and more in an FAQ on our latest report on bicyclist fatalities and what we can learn from them.
A related Action Item is letting FHWA know that bicyclists’ safety counts. They've received 9700 comments so far. Comment period ends June 30, 2014. Haven't left a comment yet? Tell FHWA that bicyclist safety must be a priority – help us ensure that more than 10,000 comments are in favor of a national goal to reduce bike/ped fatalities!
Lastly, from Rails to Trails Conservancy: Action Alert re: TIGER Grant funding for future trails, greenways, bike lanes is in jeopardy: the US Congress is voting to strip eligibility for bike/ped projects to receive TIGER Grants. Local spin: the acclaimed Indianapolis Cultural Trail received $20M in TIGER Grants and has already generated $100M in economic development (pretty good return on investment). More Info & Take Action
