Time – there’s never enough of it.  Especially when it comes to squeezing in our workouts each day.   I relish those days when I actually have the luxury of a big block of time to warm-up, train aerobically, lift some weights and then stretch everything out.  Ahhhh……….

But to be honest, those days are few and far between.  More typically, I have exactly 20 minutes before rushing off to my next commitment.  Should I just bag it?  NO!    There is a great way to train on these short days – and it is using high intensity, short duration intervals.    For those who have a track background, think 100m or 200m sprints. 

Coaches have known for years that sprint intervals are the fastest way to get their athletes stronger and faster.  The idea with intervals is to work much harder for a period of time, followed by a much easier period (recovery).   With sprint intervals, you push as hard as you can for an even shorter period of time (such as 30 seconds), but then get a longer period to recover (such as 1-2 minutes).  You may repeat this for 5-15 repetitions. 

Using these principals, Phil Campbell has designed a unique high intensity workout program called Sprint 8.  In just 20 minutes – you get warmed up, push through your intervals, and cool down.  Wow – you can’t beat the time efficiency.  Vision Fitness was so impressed that they have incorporated it as a program in all of their home fitness equipment.
