"Shifting Gears is a cooperative program between BGI, the IN Dept. of Correction, & the Indiana chapter of Volunteers of America (VoA). The program collects, refurbishes, then donates bicycles to those in need. This program is win-win-win proposition: A) INDOC's offenders learn critical jobs skills, B) Refurbished bikes go to persons in need, & C) You receive a tax deduction. Just in the past 14 months, more than 700 bikes have been donated through organizations to people who need bikes. Click HERE to learn more about the Shifting Gears Program.
There are two ways to give: #1) Donate old bikes at BGI retail locations. #2) Donate money to Shifting Gears through our local VoA Chapter. Cash donations insure that the Shifting Gears program can purchase critical supplies that can't be harvested from donated bikes, such as: new cables, chains, lubes, & solvents.
