"The guys and gals of HMBA are the most energetic and productive group I know! They have changed the face of Indiana with respect to the venues available to mountain bikers including Town Run Park, O'Bannon Woods, Fort Harrison State Park and the nationally recognized trails in Brown County State Park, designated as an Epic Trail by International Mountain Bike Association. Help HMBA keep their momentum with your membership or donation. Visit http://www.HMBA.org"

In an ongoing effort to improve and expand the mountain biking oppotunities in Indiana, Hoosier Mountain Bike Association (HMBA) and the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) have teamed up through IMBA's Chapter Program. The Hoosier Mountain Bike Association works with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to build destination trails in State Parks, Forests, and Reservoirs.  HMBA also builds and maintains local trails in Central Indiana as well as supports other local mountain biking groups throughout the State of Indiana.  Stay up to date on HMBA-IMBA news and volunteer opportunities at www.hmba.org or follow the “Hoosier Mountain Bike Association” on Facebook.

Join IMBA and HMBA to become part of the team of trail users working to improve the experience on trails close to home. As a HMBA-IMBA member, you will receive special regional newsletters, invitations to monthly meetings and many other social events throughout the year. Most importantly, you will be helping HMBA-IMBA develop future trail opportunities and improve current local trails.

HMBA Success story – Brown County State Park Trails. Just 8 years ago, mountain biking in Brown County State Park was a faraway dream. Now it's not only a reality, but the trail network has received national recognition – Brown County State Park's mountain bike trails have been crowned as "among the best in North America" in Bike Magazine's March 2009 issue. And Indiana DNR awarded HMBA the Trail Group Award in October 2009. In 2011, IMBA named Brown County State Park mountain bike trails an Epic trail.

Project in development: Mountain Bike Trails at Southwestway Park, Indianapolis.

HMBA was awarded an RTP Grant of $120,000 to develop the trail system at Southwestway Park. Construction began in Spring 2013, and the first trail completed under the grant was the hike/bike/horse Mann Loop trail. It features wide turns and open sight lines, optimized for multiple nonmotorized user groups.

In August of 2013, construction began on the Big Fire North and Big Fire South trails. These trails are bike-optimized trails for downhill bike traffic and two way hiker traffic. They feature many bermed corners and rollable jumps.

In October of 2013, construction began on a number of trails climbing to the top of Mann Hill. Mann Summit North, Mann Summit East, and the Mann/River Connector were built. Some old, unsustainable routes that were no longer needed were also closed.

The RTP Grant plan calls for several more miles of trail, including a technical downhill trail for the Marian University MTB Team. Trail work sessions for major projects tend to occur on weekends, on both Saturdays and Sundays.
