Watch The Racing:
Criterium bike racing can be very exciting to watch in person. Whereas Tour de France spectators get to see the racers once along a long road route, criterium fans see the racers every minute or so as they complete dozens of short circuits (laps). Racing lasts most of the day. NOTE: BGI Women’s 1/2/3 race is at 3:30 pm
New this year
- Final Twilight race at 9:25 pm under lights – 11 hours of racing!
- Expanded Bier Garten
Visit The Mass Ave District:
The "Mass Ave." district offers dining, shopping, arts, and more. Visit bgindy.com/for/MassIndyAve to see the directory, which shows over 30 shops, over 50 restaurants, and more places of interest.
Go By Bike:
The folks from Pedal & Park will be there to offer secure bicycle parking.. Ride your bike downtown and leave it in the safety of the Pedal & Park bike corral. Pedal & Park http://pedalandpark.org/ provides free parking for bicycles at public festivals and events in Central Indiana. They do this to encourage use of non-motorized transportation alternatives, promote use of trails and greenways, dispense relevant recreational literature and raise funds for partnering not-for-profit organizations. Now in its 13th season, P&P has parked more than 34,000 bikes.
Volunteering at Pedal & Park is fun, plain and simple. Your customers arrive happy, you get to drool on cool bicycles, and you get to attend fun events. Better yet, watch the racing from the best seats in the house while you help corral bikes for P&PHelp is needed for the race course and Pedal & Park.
Many exciting firsts for Indy MAC 2013 including a twilight race! Course safety will be more important than ever, as racers speed by in the dark! Volunteer for a short shift to help us maintain biker and pedestrian safety and receive a free t-shirt, a meal from Yats or Bazbeaux Downtown and a special offer from Bicycle Garage Indy, not to mention the best course views on Massachusetts Avenue, Indianapolis!
Volunteer duties include:
• Setting up the criterium course
• Monitoring traffic and intersections on the course to ensure cyclist safety
• Assisting attendees and residents with parking needs
Volunteers are needed for Pedal & Park and for course marshaling, especially for the afternoon/evening shifts.
