Are you new to the sport of bicycling, or just resuming after a long time away from it? If so, there is a lot to learn about your new bike and we at Bicycle Garage Indy would like to help. Join us at any of our three retail locations (North, South and Downtown) for a FREE clinic which is offered on a repeating basis all summer long. (Follow this link for registration.)
The first of these clinics is called Ready to Ride: The Bike. This clinic focuses on how you can MINIMIZE mechanical problems on the road while MAXIMIZING your enjoyment. Since one of my favorite things about bicycling is riding in new and unexplored territory, we begin with demonstrating front wheel removal. This will allow you to load up the bike and drive to an exciting new region to explore.
But before you hop onto your bike, it is important to first perform a 30-second safety check. The bicycle ABC Quick Check is designed to minimize mechanical problems once you are on the road, far from home and car. We will also detail for you the items which you should carry with you on the bicycle, both for flat tire repair and other minor adjustments.
We conclude with a discussion of shifting, including why you should do it and how it is done. We also talk about shifting and cadence and how the two tie in together. We want everyone leaving the clinic to feel confident to get back on their bicycle and efficiently use your full range of gears.
If this clinic appeals to you, then click on this link to register for the location and date that works best for you. Watch for my next blog on the second FREE clinic, which is Ready to Ride: The Rider.
