The Fentz Brothers and Tom. The four of us were planning our third Hilly Hundred ride together in 2009. With our Trek road bikes, hotel reserved and pre-payed registration.
A few weeks before the ride we had a major set back. Two of the brothers lost their jobs and the other one took a serious pay cut.
A couple of weeks later Tom was riding the Cardinal Greenway and picked up a stick with his back tirel. This locked up his rear wheel and trashed his derailleur, spokes, wheel and cracked his new Trek carbon frame.
We were now all out of commission for that years Hilly. (The Regroup)
Since Dec. of 2010 Tom was diagnosed with (and is now recovering from) a rare type of bone marrow cancer and, at the same time with no immune system, underwent an emergency appendectomy. A deadly combination to say the least.
Just recently Tom, 67, was given the thumbs up from his doctor to ride again. (The Recovery)
We realize that it is only by the grace of God that we are allowed to live and serve another day.
Tom and the Fentz brothers would love to reunite and ride together again. It was the Nite Ride that brought the four of us to ride together and it is still our favorite ride of all times, bar none.
